As result the hair becomes dry and brittle and difficult to comb. The extensions, which do not receive nourishment from the scalp, need more care than natural hair.
That’s the reason why maintenance is important.
When you apply the extensions inform your customer on simple rules that have to be followed at home and program with her regular checks to your salon.

Which product should I use?

The common shampoo and conditioner are not recommended for the extensions.
Protein-rich products are necessary to fill as much as possible the lack of a natural nourishment.
Use and suggest specific products for treated dyed hair, recommended also for hair extensions.

Also Remy hair even with intact cuticles, representing the best quality of hair extensions available on the market, need to be moisturise with quality products.
In addition you should always use thermo-protectors products that preserve cuticles from heat damages over time.

NB: Do not use products with essential oils because they can act as solvent and cause the extensions detachment.

How to wash and dry your extensions

The main substances that dirty the hair is released from the scalp (sebum and dead cells).Therefore even when wearing extensions is important to carefully wash the skin, massage gently without damaging the junction points. If you use professional products remember that they are concentrated so it will be sufficient to use one contained quantity, and if necessary repeat the  wash.
Here there are some pointers:

• Do not wash your hair upside down.
• Massage them gently and let the water flow from root to tip
• First wash: massage the scalp gently
• Second wash: apply the product also on lengths.

A little secret: you can make a braid, in this way the products will penetrate inside and the water will flow down, avoiding tangling problems.

• After wash, the best to do is to dry and comb your hair with a special brush.
• You can use hair dryer and  hair straightener to create the desired look.

Giving  informations to your customers, she will appreciate your skills and attention.

Also suggest a specific brush for hair extension, to be used several times per day, especially if the extensions are very long.
Brush the hair frequently help to keep the cuticles compact and prevent hair from tangling.

Periodic checks to the hairdresser

Performing a monthly check  is a powerful tool of customer retention.
The reason why is that after a month the customer hair can naturally fall and get trapped in the junction points, causing a “teasing” effect.
Keep in mind that naturally we lose from 50/70 up to 100-120 hairs per day.
In case of pre-bonded hair extensions is imperative to check monthly.

Warnings

Inform the customer that if she swims in the sea or in the pool, must rinse hair immediately with fresh water.
Salt and chlorine can be very harmful for the Hair, which can dry out prematurely.

Try to avoid dyeing, toning or discolour extensions.
The extensions can be dyed it is true, but it is always better to avoid it.
