Before applying the extensions, wash the hair with shampoo only, do not apply conditioner.
If necessary, apply conditioner on the ends only (DO NOT apply conditioner to the roots or close to the root area, as this could affect the holding power of the keratin).
Thoroughly dry and straighten the hair, noting how the hair falls naturally.
If the hair is very full and thick, use thinning shears to remove some of the bulk at the base, as this will help the extensions to adhere to the hair.
This operation is not necessary if the hair has already been cut to reduce its volume.

Before application, we recommend removing a few millimeters of the keratin (by cutting the bond along its length) in order to reduce the quantity to be applied and make it imperceptible to the touch.

Place the extension under the customer’s own hair, fuse the keratin using the Fair Fashion heat wand tool, and fold it over on top, pressing it with the fingers.
Press it again using the heat wand, then press it all round with the fingers.
The keratin must be firmly pressed to make the bond thin, flat and smooth with no wrinkles.

A good tip to achieve an even more natural effect is to cut the keratin bond in half vertically, giving 2 micro-extensions to apply on the bottom row of hair at the nape of the neck, making the bonds invisible when the hair is gathered up.
The same operation is recommended on the temples and the crown, giving bonds which are practically invisible.

BASIC RULES

1 Leave a distance of approximately 1.5 cm between the top of the bond and the customer’s scalp.

2  Work at the correct angle: it is important to work in the same direction as the hair growth to avoid dragging.

3 Ensure that the section of hair created is of the right thickness: not too thin, to prevent the weight of the extension from “stressing” the hair, and not too thick.

4 Part the customer’s hair to allow the melted keratin to take hold.

5 CHECK THE APPLICATION EVERY 3-4 WEEKS
Within this time there is a chance that a certain amount of hair may fall out naturally, while some remains in the bond.  If left on the melted bond there may be teasing effect.
Bear in mind that we naturally lose between 50 and 120 hairs per day, depending on the season.
Therefore we advise periodically checking and “cleaning” the bonding points.

CUTTING AFTER APPLICATION

It is critical to create a balance between the customer’s own hair and the extensions applied, giving a haircut which makes the applied extensions look as natural and imperceptible as possible.
The best cutting technique for layering and connecting the extensions to the customer’s hair is to carry out a slide cut on dry hair, using scissors and thinning shears. When the quantity of applied extensions is correct (neither too many or too few), the work of applying the extensions will be minimal.

REGULAR SALON CHECKUPS

It is advisable to have the bonds checked monthly at a salon.
After this period of time, it is likely that a certain amount of the customer’s hair will have fallen out naturally, remaining trapped in the bonds. If this is not removed, it may cause a number of problems, such as a “backcombed” effect at the root.
It is important to remember that we naturally lose between 50 and 70 hairs a day, and as many as 100 – 120 hairs at certain times of the year.
If correctly maintained, keratin extensions can be worn for up to 5/7 months, during which time the customer should make regular visits to their salon to have the bonds “cleaned” of any excess hair strands.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING

It is inadvisable to attempt applying hair extensions – especially those with keratin bonds – without prior training. Application of these extensions requires precision to avoid any possible problems afterwards.
